Client: Cerebral Palsy Association of British Columbia
The Client wants to provide event information for the Gala by handing out printed programs. On it, the program is to promote the work of the Cerebral Palsy Association of British Columbia (CPABC), to list the events of the night, and to recognize sponsors of the evening. The Client requests that the print collateral to be consistent with the theme colour of the night – green and white.
The focus of the cover design is to convey the message of “Life Without Limits”. By showing the basic information only– event name, date, and organization– and subtle background elements, I keep the design simple so that the focus is on the text.
I use a green watercolour background to allude to the expressive arts program that CPABC offers. In addition, watercolour is a fluid medium, a symbol of “Life Without Limits”, focusing on the ability to do things rather than disability. I use decorative hanging circles to represent dangling crystals that one might see at galas. This decorative feature is repeated on the inside, but upside-down. It can be interpreted as blossoming sprouts or microphones for the speakers.
Unlike the previous program where one speaker was featured, this year there are 3 speakers. Instead of having a long description for each, which would exceed the 4 page limit, we decide to use their portraits and titles to give them the same prominence.
While designing the program, I did not have the final list of sponsors. Hence, the back cover is designed with fixed sizes of white rectangles. This way logos of different sizes and colours can sit on the white background without interfering with the green theme that is used, and still give an orderly appearance.
